A BARQUE IN TROUBLE

MAJORITY OF THE CREW UNACCOUNTED FOR. A VAGUE ACCOUNT. By Calile—Press Association—Copyright. Received May 6. 11.25 p.m. f Melbourne, Last Night. Gabo Island station reported this afternoon that the steamer Tasmanic had signalled that the barque Loch Katrine, bound from Glasgow to Sydney via Melbourne, was dismasted on 27th April and ten members of the crew were aboard the Tasmanic. \ The position of the Loch Katrine was given as 50 degrees soivth latitude, 151 degrees east longitude, or 360 miles due south of Tasmania.

As she left Melbourne on 23rd April, it is considered in shipping circles that it is impossible she could have got into such a position. Captain Lome, or the Loch Garry, is of opinion that the position should be 40 degrees south, which would place her just east of Flinders Island.

The agents of the vessel have accented this surmise as correct.

The Tasmanic will not reach Melbourne till 10 o'clock to-morrow night. Tn the meantime efforts arc beiii'j- made to signal her along the coast. With a view of obtaining further details. Asbistaiice is being sent. The Loch Katrine barque ]>■.<. d (jy.u to>:s of original <>eneral cargo aboard, am! carrrd a crew of from twenty-two to twr-.ity-six, so Uiat from twelve to sixtec:! are so far unaccounted for.
