Tlie Ngamotu links are improving, but the warmth of ifche season still encour-j iives a too vigorous growth of grass for| tlie golfers. SOhfl greens are in capital playing order, Tlie necessity for players to more care-J uily study and abide by the rules gov-; eniing a competition was Jrought home, to some Ngamotu memters during the; week. The Xgamotu Club's programme for tlit week ia as follows:—To-day (Saturday), eleetic match; Tuesday (May 10), Ladies' IS-J >le Medal Handicap; Thursday (May 12), Mixed Foursome; Saturday (May 14), St. Andrew's Cross Medal Handicap. The Cu'rington Road Club starts the season under favorable auspices. Up till the ni<rftt before last, the prospect* of obi lining suitable links were not too rciy. The owner of the land played upon last year required tt rent utterly beyrul the resources of the club, and this meant looking around for other grounds. These, fortunately, were obtained from Mr. Saxton. They are practically alongside the present links and ava infinitely more suitable. The ■ground is clear of fern, etc.. the grass is green the ivear .through and kept low by sheep, the country affords plenty of variety, and is playable the year round. At present there is a six-hole private links ion the ground, and the work of putting another three down will involve little labor or expense. The grounds, as a matter of fact, are second to none .on ,the coast, and tihe club are fortunate in securing them.
The annual meeting of the new club takes place on Monday evening. The finances are in ia healthy condition, there (being a «redit balance of over £2O, whilst it is exipeeted the membership will be considerably augmented. Last year it was 30—18 "men and 18 ladies—but this year, if promises go for anything, the number should "be doubled. The matter of erecting a ,<;olf house will be considered. There \i i\ pretty general feelins among members that the club should pitoceeil with the work xi«ht
