Commander Peary lectured to ten thousand |peo.ple at the Geographical Society, including many admirals and travellers. The lecture was given in the Albert Hall, a magnificent (photograph illustrating the geographical features, Eskimos, and pack ice transportation difficulties, and the United States flag surmounting a. (mound of snow and ice representing the Pole. The Eskimos with uplifted arms are seen cheering Peary, and the picture was greeted with salvoes of applause. Peary's narrative followed on the lines of the published accounts. Major Darwin presented Peary with a medal which the jvvife of Captain Scott, the explorer, designed and modelled as a high tribute to Peary. Sir G. Nares, Admiral' Sir Lewis Beaumont, and Captain Scott supported him.
