A special vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Albert Magon for his services on the sports ground. j The seventh shooting competition lor Mr. F. M. Julian .. .. 24 22 scr—4o The local bachelors held a meeting k on Saturday night to consider the question of holding their annual ball. It was de- ' cided to" hold it on 15th June. A strong committee was formed to undertake arrangements. KENT ROAD. A meeting of farmers from the Kent road and surrounding districts was held in the Kent school on Monday night for the' purpose of discussing the blackberry pest, and to hear Mr. Okey, M.P. Mr. Okev spoke on a few of the Bills brought forward last session, and then dealt with the blackberry pest. He said what .was required was united action on the ipart of the farmers so as ' to get the Government to experiment or report on the blackberry blight and as to whether or not it would be advisaine to introduce it into the Dominion, iif- • ter it had been well discussed a eornmit--1 tee was elected —Messrs G. For some years it has been the custom to cut the vines, but this seems to have little effect, and ' ploughing the n °t seem to [ eradicate the .pest. If nothing further . is done, it is feared that whole districts will soon be infested.
