The election of Sir Christopher Durness for Hartlepool has been declared void on the ground of an irregularity in miners being supplied with free meals by his agents or sub-agents. The Court which heard the petition held that Sir Christopher Furness was not. personally guilty of corrupt or illegal practices, but reported George Butler, an election agent, for excessive expenditure, and Wallace, organiser of the miners' demonstration tickets that had •been given for meals, to the Public Prosecutor.
