FOOTBALL.

Tamu and Jerry Crowley are amongst the players nominated by the Taranaki Rugby Union for Australia, while both Pini and Tamu have been approached to join the N.Z. Native team which is being equipped for an amateur campaign in Australia. Writes the Wellington Times:—The Taranaki Rugby Union steered a practical course when it decided to provide annual scholarships to perpetuate the ing memory of the late Alf. Bayly, who for a score or more years played the leading role in all athletic sports and games in the Taranaki province. The scholarships, worth £lO a year, will be open to all boys attending schools in the Taranaki Education District, and will be competed for at the annual school examinations. No player was better known in football circles a few years back, and no player was more popular or better liked than Bayly. Everybody, even to the smallest child, knew him, and he came to be known as the "Kiddies' Idol." "Give the ball to Bayly!" was the cry of the juvenile barrackers at all football matches in which Bayly played. No better method of perpetuating his memory could be hit, upon than the providing of scholarships I which serve to keep him fresh in the minds of the young, for memories of such men as Alf Bayly are well worth cherishing.
