GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY
St. Mary's Hall was well tilled last night, when a concert was given in am 01 the funds of the local branch of the Girls' Friendly Society. The concert was distinctly enjoyable, for there was an unusually large supply of excellent humor, including some capital recitations. "The Laughing Bureau," a farcical sketch, was very well put on indeed, the characters being filled by Misses Outer, Godfrey, Joyce, Hempton and D. Bedford. Miss Carte also appeared in a couple ot humorous recitations, "In the Pit" and '"An Inventor's Wife," her accent ami mannerisms being good. Mr. 11. Easther was quite at the top of his form in '■'Melia and Me," and he also recited the "Irish Fire Brigade," "Mrs. Doogan's Discovery" and "The Soldier's Story." A iiiusk'al treat was afforded by Miss Simons (violin) and Miss C. Leatham (piano) in their rendering of the "Concerto de Beriot, No. SI," this very hne composition being correctly and confidently played. Miss Chong sang the old favorite. "Love, the Pedlar,'' responding to an encore wiili "Vo San.'' Mrs. lii'.rvey was euccessi'iil also in her singin* of "Tiie Miller and the Maid," her encore number being "Sally Horner.'' Mr. T. Wnodard sang in excellent voice
"Louisiana Loti," and had to sing the last: verse a second time. Miss Standish played accompaniments throughout the eveiing. The promoters are to be eomiplimentcd upon the nature of the programme submitted, and would again have a bumper house if the entertainment were repeated.
