TARANAKI REFEREES' 'ASSOCIATION. , The Taranaki Referees' Association met last night, when there were present: Messrs. G. Griffiths (chairman), Spurdlc, Roch, Way, Woods, and West. The Saturday Football Association wrote asking the association to appoint referees»for the Saturday Cup competition. It was decided that referees be appointed provided they receive the same protection as under the Taranaki Rugby Union, and that they be paid for loss of time at the rate of one shilling per hour. Appointments were made for Saturday next subject to the foregoing resolution:—Rovers v. Warehousemen, Mr. Way; Civil Service v. Firates, Mr. Rocli. Messrs. V. Harkness and B. Petty were elected members of the association subject to the usual examination. Mr. A. K. Smart was elected secretary to the association, vice Mr. West, resigned. The Wanganui football season opened on Saturday in broiling hot summer weather. Four teams were engaged in the senior competition. Kaierau (last year's champions) beat Wanganui by 11 to nil after a close' game, and Pirates ran all over the newly-fonned Eastern team to the tune of 32 to nil. The games were fast and open, and players showed fair form for the beginning of the season.
