(From Our Resident Correspondent.) The Wiaitara Borough Council has been notified that the borough applica-' tiou for the Joan of £20,000 has been approved by the Stat# Guaranteed Advances Board. The Clifton football teams promise to ■be fairly strong this season. The senior team will be considerably strengthened by several new players and the supporters are looking forward to the teams putting up a good record this season. . A deputation from the local band is to wait on the members of the Borough Council at its next meeting to urge the necessity of erecting a band rotunda. The New Zealand Shipping Company's next boat to load frozen meat is the s.s. Kiaikoura and will be due on the 9th. The first meet of the North Taranaki Hunt Club took place on Mr. W. Birdling's farm on Thursday and was a complete success. | The Waitara Municipal Brass Band gave a sacred concert on the camp reserve on Sunday afternoon under de-puty-Bandmaster W. Skelton. There was a fair attendance and the programme :\vas much enjoyed by those present. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Thos. Clare was held on Friday afternoon in the Courthouse before Mr. Medley, D.O.A. About twenty creditors were present. The assets and liabilities were Unsecured creditors £613 17s, others holding endorsed p.n.'s £534 10s; secured creditors, £452, estimated value of security £OO2. Secnred creditors: Jus. Reeve £122, with unregistered bill of sale over cattle —amount of debt £140; A. Bewley, £250, over house valued at £450; C. Weston, £BO. Personal estate, value £47, including brood mare and farm implements. Debtor's worn statement was to the effect that five years ago he considered he ■was solvent; then his reverses started with the death of a son, followed by a of adverse circumstances. He j hoped to recover his position bv going j in for cropping largely, but things became worse. The high rate of interest I lie had to pay for money borrowed, nnd I the failure of crops, coupled with loss I of stock through blackleg, and the death ; of a valuable brood mare, were the principal causes of his misfortunes. The direct cause of his filing was the action | of native owners, who distrained for rent while he was on a bed of sickness, the action of the creditors leading to the stacks being sacrificed, and taking; off the goodwill. It was resolved that i the meeting be adjourned, and that in the meantime the bankrupt prepare a statement of his receipts and expenditure for the last three years, and attend] on the Assignee at his office to give necessary explanations, and that a wirther meetin<i ne called.
