Mr. R. (Jock has been re-elected cluu»l'nui of the Pukekiita Park Hoard. Mr. Fred Watson lias returned to Ntpr Plymouth from a visit to Auckland. A Hague cable message states that Mr. Theodore lloosevelt has gone to Copenhagen. Mr. R. G. Scott, formerly of the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred from. Hulls to Raetihi. A private letter received from Mr. (?. F. Brodie, sub-editor of the Taranaki Herald, states that he is improving in health. Acting upon medical advice, he has decided to take a lengthy rest. The Governor contracted a chill at Tokaanau, and by the advice of a doctoi has abandoned his projected tour to iiotorua, Taunvnga, Waihi and ton, but he hopes to be able to fulfil Masonic engagements at Wellington next week, and afterwards to tour the West Coast of this island. —Press wire. Mr. T. M. Wilford has, after some years of effort, become Mayor of Wellington. One public position after another is attained by this redoubtable Liberal, who never appears to knew when he is beaten (says the Mastertoa Times). If he does not get what he wants to-day lie simply waits till tomorrow. Is he to be New Zealand's future Caesar? Will his next step be a seat in the Cabinet and, after that, when opportunity offers, will he take a position as Prime Minister? Nothing succeeds like success, and Mr. T. W. Wilfcrd appears to achieve the latter in a remarkable manner. We trust he will be able to render good service to Wellington during his term as Mayor. The dignity of this ofl'ice lias been worthily upheld, by numerous predecessors, and we trust Mr. Wilford will prove equal tn maintaining the prestige of the post l tion. We are a little puzzled, however, a* to how he will find time for his multK farious duties.
