BRITAIN AND GERMANY.
A TACTFUL SPEECH. By Cable —Press Association-—Copyright Brisbane, April 30. Count Irmir, the German Consul-Gen-eral, speaking at a meeting of the DeutBpher Trinrverein, emphasised the warm relationship that always existed between Britain and Germany. The handshake betweefa Wellington and Blucher after Waterloo would exert its friendly influence through centuries. With such memories before them it was not righteous to talk of war between the two countries. Australia would need no Dreadnoughts if only they liad 20,000 fighting men drawn from the ranks of men who were Australians, Germans, Scandinavians, Russians and Britons, because thea none would dare trouble them.
