Hall-Jones was present. ■Lord- Islington, in replying to the toast of his health, said he lookde forward with hope and pleasure to the prospects of his high and responsible position, lie intended to throw himself actively and sympathetically rato the social and industrial life of New Zealand. Pc strongly advocated a reciprocal arrangement between Canada and the West Indies. West Indian traders with foreign connections feared the resentment of foreign countries, but he. believed these apprehensions were exaggerated. He did not believe the family arrangement would 'be regarded as a hostile act if discreetly and judiciously established between the component parts of the Empire.■< •••■:•.:■-
