In hearing the election petition against Sir Christopher Funiess the witnesses alleged that 700 miners at Hartlepool vere supplied with meals, and 270 and 348 respectively at two other places, on tickets furnished by Sir C. Furniss's agent or sub-agent. LORDS v. COMMONS. MAINLY EXPLANATIONS. Received April 30, 0.20 a.m. London, April 29. Lord Crewe explained the alterations in the Budget, and stated that no' bargain of any kind was made or could be made respecting that or any future Budget. Lord Lansdowne declared that the peers were bound by a pledge to acquiesce in its passage, and justified last year's reference to the constituencies, because the Government themselves proclaimed it novel and unprecedented. Lord Lansdowne proceeded to severely comment on the Government's tactics in securing the Irish vote. Lord Loreburn. warmly attacked Lord Eansdowne, and alleged that the hitter's pit dominant motive in resisting the Budget of 1909 was an attempt to secure a triumph for the pernicious doctrine of tariff reform.

In the House of Commons, Colonel Seely, during a discursive debate, justified the .policy in Somaliland, where the Mullah's power was waning. •Mr. Montague Eees rebuked Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald and Mr. Keir Hardie for discussing issues connected with Arabindo Ghose's prosecution, the matter resting entirely with the law courts ot India.

Both Houses decided to adjourn, after a formal meeting to-day for the Royal Commission, until 26th Mav.

Mr. Lloyd-George made a grant of £3OOO towards the expenses of the publication of the scientific results of Bruce's Antarctic investigations. *
