Bates' summary and forecast are as follow: The weather has been unsettled ami 'cloudy on the east coast of the North Isianti, and gloomy at times in many parts of the South Island, but generally fine "moderate southerly winds have prevailed in tfle North, * the northerlies 'hive increased in the South, and a gale (apparently local) is reported at Kaikoura this afternoon. Present indications are for a falling barometer everywh'-rc, with freshening northerly winds. The low pressure is probably approaching, and threatens a change in tlie iweather, especially in the South.
