SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
TARATA. There was a poor attendance here on Monday night. The following gentlement were elected a school committee: Messrs J. S. Wilson, J. Crowe, T. Chamney, A. Corkill, H. Waite, G. W. Fongcre and W. Crozier. At the after meeting Mr. J. S. Wilson was elected chairman. i The report dealt with the improvements to the school .by the Education Board, the building of a school residence, the changes in the teaching staff, and the improvements and alterations made in the school grounds by the committee. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 18s 2d at the end of the financial year. A discussion re the smallness of the capitation grant and the impossibility of making ends meet without the aid of the public ended in the following resolution being carried: —''That this meeting of householders protest emphatically against the reduction of the capitation grant to school committees, and urges upon the Minister for Education the advisability of reinstating the grant at as early a date as possible, as its loss has seriously crippled the funds committees.— Own correspondent.
