THE GYMNASIUM SOCIETY
There were about twenty-three present at ii meeting called fur (!•. of discussing the .formation 01 the above society last evening. Mr. S. J. Outran, one of the trustees of the former duh, which lapsed in 1908, presided and apologiM'd for the absence of the other trustee, Mr. C. Carter. T!ic meeting was very enthusiastic, several of the old members being present, and it was unanimously decided to re-form under the name of the New Plymouth United Gymnasium Club. <ln the petition of the requisite number of members of the old society, the trustees handed over the apparatus, Looks and A'i- nice of £2 lis !)d, to the. new soei' :y, which thus gets a good start.
'li'icers were elected 'as ifollows: — Piitron. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Tinch): president, Mr. W. Ambury; vicepresidents, R. (Jock, S. Shaw, 11. Black, A. Ambury, X. K. McDiarmid, C. E. Bellrin«er, W. H. .Skinner, C. Carter, j lu v. S. S. Osborne and J. G.- Chapman.' Drs. Pookes, Leatham, Walker, Home, McClelland, Wyllie and Blcakley; secretary and treasurer, Mr. L. J. Slander; ladies' committee, Misses E. Smith and R Howell; men's committee, Messrs. S. J. Catran, W. Okey, R. Okey, G. Carter, Mullov, 11. Thompson; instructor, Mr. W A! Lints; pianist, Mr. Fenton. The subscriptions for the first term were fixed at ladies ss, men (is. It was decided that classes will be liekl On one night each per week during tiro first: term, viz., Wednesday for men, and Thursdays for ladies. Thirtv-one names were handed in for membership.
