SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

waitara. Tlk' annual meeting of householders was held oil .Monday evening, Mr. G. ice. chairman of the outgoing committee, presided. The report aud bal-ance-sheet was read, showing a credit balance of £l4 10s 7d. The following committee was elected for the ensuing year:—Messrs Gaustad, Ford, Jenkins, Kettle, Pearce, Wakley, Trim, Johnston and Spurdle. The newly-appointed committee met immediately after the annual meeting, .Mr. G. Peaive being- re-appointed chairman. The committee decided to meet 011 the first Monday in each month. A petition was read asking that Bible-reading in school be allowed, but was not entertained by the commitee.— Own correspondent. IXGLEWWOD. About thirty householders attended the meeting on Monday. Mr. F. W.j Whitehead was voted to the cliair. The ( secretary reported that the roll Ima in- 1 creased l'rom 283 to 30(5, and the average attendance from 241 to 275 during! the past year. The inspector's reports were all favorable, and sixteen scholars had gained free places at .the High ,'Scliool. Among sundry improvements is a. large bell, presented by Mr. Marshall, which is to be hung shortly. The ejection of a new Technical School at | Inglewood is anticipated in the near I fill lire. The balance sheet snowed a credit balance of £4 lis 10d. Thirteen nominations were veceived for the incoming committee. Nine members only were required to be elected, and a ballot was taken which resulted a? follows: F. W. Whitehead 20, A. F. Thomson 19, S. Spurdle 10, W. .Marshall 10. R. Fawcett 14, F. C. Bennett 13. W. Hood 12. T. W. Rolston 12. F. Drake 11 G. Taylor 10, C. Goad 10. Richardson 9, J. E. Bennett 0. The first nine were declared elected. The following resolu tioii was carried unanimously. That this meeting emphatically protests against the withdrawal by the Department of the capitation of 9d per head, as this aciion has seriously crippel school com mittees.

OMATA. A meeting of householders was held in tile schoolroom on Monday evening, when the following gentlemen were elected to serve on the committee for the ensuing year: —Messrs E. R- Baylej, D. Penwarden, Pearson, Clemow. A. Mace. Matthews and Meredith. Previous to the election, the chairman (Mr. Baylev) read the balance-sheet of last year, which showed a credit of £l3 'is bd. 'lie also explained, that there was a further sum of £4 due bv the Education Board to the committee.

Mr Meyenburg, the schoolmaster, submitted a report of the working of the school for the time he had been in charge, which was considered very satisfactory by the meeting. At a meeting of the* committee immediately after the | householders' meeting Mr, E. E. Barley was again unanimously elected chairman. The master was authorised to procure necessary clubs and dumbbells. Mr. D. Penwarden and the chairman were authorised to sign withdrawal notes at the post office. The chairman was authorised to .procure two cords of 4ft rata for school firewood and to employ labor to repair the fences and grub blackberries on the school grounds. An account was posed for school cleaning. It was decided, subject to the approval of the Education Board, to shorten tha dinner hour of the school children during the months of May, June, July and August, as tnose coming from a distance were unable to get home before dark.—Own correspondent.

WAREA. Tile annual meeting of householders was held, in the local schoolroom oil Monday night, Mr. G. P. Jones presiding. The report stated that during tli« previous year the grounds had been cleared and the fern all cut and a new fence erected along Burgess road. A concert had been promoted by the teacher. Miss Evans, the proceeds of which amounted to £4 7s sd, this been .placed to tliec redit of the school funds. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £9 12s. The picnic balancesheet was read and showed receipts £IS Is and expenditure £l2 6s 6d. The report and balanced-sheet were adopted. The following committeemen were elected:—o. P. Jones, W. 11. Julian, ,1. Tlalpin, W. B. Clarke, H. Pelham, T. R. Julian and M. D. Rogers. A meeting oi the committee was subsequently held, when Mr. M. I). Rodgers was elected chairman for the ensuing year and Mr. 11. Pelham secretary. Rev. Braddock applied fof leave to give an object lesson on chemical experiments to illustrate the "Moral virtues in short elementary religion," etc.— The matter was left ill the hands of the chairman. A snb-eonimitteo was appointed to look after the school affairs throughout ilie vear. It was decided to obtain firewood.—Own correspondent.

XGAIRE. At the school committee election at Xgaire forty-one householders were present. about one-half being ladies. Mr. T. E. Coleman was in the chair. The chairman's report stated that there iirtu been a change of headmasters during the year, Mr. Stratford being succeeded by Mr. Sims. Although the. committee regretted losing Mr. Stratford, they were fortunate in securing Mr. Sims, a hardworking and painstaking teacher. In of the change of teachers, the inspector's report had been very good. Cordon Saunders, a sixth standard pu;.:i. aged 14 years, gained a gold medal uivin by the Stratford Horticultural Society at their autumn show for an essay on "Winter feeding of stock.'' As there were about 25 competitors for this prize, both the winner and his teacher deserved great credit. During the year the headmaster had sold vegetables frown in the school garden, and with the money received had started a library for the elder scholars. TlTe following were elected a committee:—Mrs. Manley, Messrs T. E. Coleman, T. Orr, W. Morison. C. Robertson, •T. Pennington and AY. Wickliam. Mr. Coleman was re-elected chairman, which post he has filled continuously for the, past sixteen years. Mr. Pennington] was appointed secretary.

NORFOLK ROAD. At the householders' meeting at Norfolk Road, after the report and balance sheet for the past, yea;' had been read and passed, the following committee was elected for the enduing year. viz.. Messrs ,1. Burgess. W. Gorney, A. .John;ion, 1. 11. Jones, A. Marshall. I!. Stevens una If. Trimble. At the subsequent committee meeting Mr. Stevens was elected chairman, and Mr. Trimble secretary and treasurer. The householders unanimously carried a resolution proposed by Mr. Trimble protesting against the abolition oi trie capitation grant to school committees by the Education Department, and asking he Minister to reinstate that ;::t\ment at as early a date as p«-s:h!c. It was also resolve,' iiold a working bee to cut firewood for tire school, to be held in Mr. Trimble's paddock on| Monday aud Tuesday next, and to post notices lo that effect at the school and the Maketawa Dairy Factory. It seems that last year the volunteer workers ■not having been numerous enough, or having worked only part of one day, did not succeed in cutting quite enoiign 10 last the winter through, and it is hoped that more parents will give a hand or send along a load or two of wood this year. The ordinary revenue of the committee is not sufficient- t.o allow for the ■purchase of fuel, so the voluntary labor plan has been adopted as the most suitable in this case. The two concrete gate posts put up or built by the committee on Monday, the IStli inst., were a subject of interest to some of the householders, who expressed themselves as satisfied with the stability of the work. The beauty, if any, will not be revealed till the boxing is removed. The new committee appointed /Messrs. Johnston and Stevens delegates to the "Moa School Committees' Association." aud decided to hold the monthly meetings for the year on the second Thursday in each monthat7.3op.ni.

Doris, A. E. Winter, 11. Ileal and H. W. Baxter, Mr. G. F. Dewliirst (secretary, re-elected). BELL BLOCK. The election of committee resulted in Messrs. Cunnett, Horsup, HolmßS, Street, King, Haskell and Downs being elected. At a committee meeting held alter ilr. Connett was elected chairman, and Mi Downs secretary and treasurer. At most of the householders' meetings hold hi the district last night for the purpose of electing School Committees, resolutions were passed -protesting against the action of the Education Department in curtailing the special grant to Education Boards and the capitation grant to committees.

■LEVIN. Levin, Yesterday. The School Committee election was fought on the straight-out issue of Bible in schools. Each side nominated a full " ticket." Great interest was taken, and a big poll was recorded. The party favoring the maintenance of tin; secular system secured the return of all nine committeemen, and had its tenth man at the top of the rejected candidates.
