During the afternoon Dan Patch, the Australian champion, made an attempt to lower the record for a mile on the track and so win the Club's purse of ,■€2 so, offered to any horse establishing a record of 2.14. 'The champion found the track rather heavy, and made a mistake on the wot ground after .passing the stand. From that out his claims were dnbious. and he eventually finished more ;than lOsec. outside of the record time.
