She was a member of a literary society. He—wasn't. He took her down to supper. Deceived by his hair, she took him for a kindred soul. T . She: "Are you fond of poetry? I love lt- He (aside): "What a funny girl! Wants her supper, evidently!—(aloud) — Poultry, yes, when it's not dry and overdone." ■ She: "Oh, yes, of course. Ive gone in for Crabbe lately." He: "Indeed!" She: "And Shelley." He: "Beg pardon?" She: "I said Shelley." He: "Shelly. Well, yes! they are ra(She didn't know what he meant, but she went on). "And I adore Cowper. He: "Do you, indeed! Well, now, crab and Cooper are both very well in their ■way, but for a jolly snack after the theatre commend me to oysters and champagne." "S—i—r—r—r!"
