STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Resident Correspondent.) S'.'.atford, April 22. The Stratford '>,..wlers received an unexpected set-' ack at the hands of hi gltwood yesterday. This was the greater inasmuch as during the .previous week Hawera had fallen before the re-' | presentatives of the local club. Recently. when the Hawera club sustained defeat at •I'ltliam, some enthusiasts pre-i .snited the club with a' minahire coffin; and a local bowler suggested to t'he| writer that a similar course might be followed here. The names of Dr, Paget and 'Mr. C.j D. Sole are mentioned as probable caiHi didates for the vacancy which will oc-| cur in the Borough Council after the Mayoral election. ' A "runaway" down Broadway created! considerable excitement this afternoon,! a horseman having a narrow escape (from a collision. The fugitive was popped before any damage was done. The foptball fixtures for the Northern end are to be slightly rearranged to avoid two senior matches being played in New Plymouth on the same day. A series of five matches will ,be played this season between the Old Boys and High School teams for a challenge cup presented by Mr. W. Huse. t The wool classing class will commence •to-morrow. Consequent on insufficient, support 'being forthcoming the suggested' class at Toko has been temporarily abandoned.
