I THE INCOME TAX CASES. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Friday. The Court of Appeal, in the case Bowron Bros. v. Bishop, refused to grant leave to appeal to the Privy Council from the decision of the Court of Appeal, but stated that plaintiffs could apply direct to the Privy Council for such leave.
' STREET BETTING. Wellington. Friday. In giving judgment in the case Police v. Robinson, a charge of street betting, Mr. Barton, S.M., referring to points raised for the defence, said it .was clear that defendant had no right to the option of being tried by a jury, and that it was unnecessary to prove that defendant had used the street on more than one occasion. Defendant was fined £2O, in default two months' imprisonment. AN OPIUM PROSECUTION. Dunedin, Friday. Low Quee was fined £25 for having opium in his possession. A HOTELKEEPER FINED. Christehurch, Friday. Mr. Bailey, S.M., gave judgment today in a case in which a hotelkeeper 'Was charged with refusing accommodation to a person suspected of being a thief. The Magistrate held a hotelkeeper had no right to discriminate on the grounds of suspicion, and inflicted a ■penalty of 10s and costs.
