RIFLE SHOOTING.
STRATFORD RIFLE CLUB v. TARANAKI GUARDS.
RECORD SHOOTING. An enjoyable match was fired at Stratford 'between senior teams representing the Taraiiaki Guards and Strauord Kiile Chub. These are looked upon as the champion volunteer and rille cLub respectively of the province. Four matches have previously been, fired between the teams, hov.or.- being even up to this point, xoterday's match resulted in a win for the Rille Club by 10 points. This is about the biggest margin between these teams, and the club may be regarded as champions for the present. The match was fired in beautiful weather, and the conditions were almost ideal for shooting. The scores put up are a record for Taranald, each team having passed its .previous best score by a considerable margin. The conditions were seven shots each at 200, 500 and (100 yards. Some fine individual scores were put up, Rifleman C. Speck heading the list with 103, making possibles at 200 and 500. yards, and putting on 33 at the longest range. Private N'icholls was a good second with 100, viz., 32 and two all huts. The visitors were most hospitably entertained by the local team, and though beaten by the small margin of 10 points, thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Detailed scores:—
