HOME AND AUSTRALIAN TRADE
BRITISH TRADE COMMISSIONER SPEAKS. By Cable—Press Association— Copyright. Perth, Thursday. Mr. Hamilton Wickes, British Board of Trade Commissioner, addressed the Chamber of Commerce on BritishAustralian trade, embodying conclusions arrived at after eighteen months' investigation. He believes the equal distribution of wealth in Australia is unparalleled in the world. Outside forty or fifty British houses which had established' their own businesses here, the vast bulk of the British manufacturers relied upon Australian distributing houses. The Australian trade is entirely in British hands in soft goods and 'metals. With regard to Australian distribution and the value of goods, t'fee buyer did not care about the value as long as the price was low. He had recommended British manufacturers to send out experts to learn something about the markets for themselves. These should examine the trade and stocks in Australia and advise their principals at Home.
