OPENS A NEW BRIDGE. ~
A NOTABLE RECEPTION.

1 Alau^-awc.ka, Last Night. sir Joseph Ward arrived at Mangaweka at noon to-day. en route to open the new bridge at Kaiwerawera. He w.ts met at the station bv the president anil in embers of the Chamber of Commeice, who extended to him a hearty welcome upon his visit to the district. The Prime Minister immediately left by eoach for the Ruahine district, where upon his arrival he was acvorded a flattering reception by the settlers, who were present from all pans „f the distnot. As the coach drew up, cheers were given by the axi'inlilnjo and a large gathering of schoolchildren, w ho formed up on each side of the road. This was the Premier's lirst visit to tie locality, and he expressed great pleasure at (he splendid settlement and the great prosperity everywhere apparent. ' r
