ALLEGED CASH SHORTAGE. By Telegraph—Pre*i Awocifctioti. Auckland, Monday. George Bater, a well-known provincial football representative, was arrested on a charge of having failed to account for £IOO, which it is alleged be received on behalf of Messrs. Sliarlaud and Co., Ltd., I by whom he was employed as assistant | accountant. Bater appeared before the Court this morning, and was remanded. THE USE OF DOG-HOOKS. Wellington, Monday. Mr. Haselden, S.M., is hearing cases to-day in which George Farland, assist-ant-secretary of the Wharf Laborers' Union, and forty-nine others are charged with aiding and abetting and taking part in a strike respectively. The cases arise out of the cessation of work on the steamer Wanaka recently, when an order was given that the use of hooks in unshipping bags of cement must be discontinued. The men were willing to continue work if allowed to use hook*. It was stated that the question of the use of hooks had never been before the I Arbitration Court or Conciliation Council. j TRESPASSERS OX RACECOURSES. Wellington. Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Wil-, liam Collins and -1. Dowsing were each fined £2 and costs for trespassing on Trentham racecourse. Similar charges against James MeLaughlan and Len Russeil were dismissed. STREET BETTTXO. Naoier. L.ist Night.
At the Magistrate's Court to-day Edward Rcatnn was charged with street betting on hoive nee*. Decision was reserved.
