Bates', weather summary and forecast: lie storm area which passed eastward of the South Island on Sunday morning was accompanied by very severe westerly weather and the lowest barometric pressure (28.62) was recorded since February 18871 Only three times has it been lower previously since 1867. The present indications are for a falling barometer everywhere, and winds changing to northerly and freshening, especially in the extreme north and south, where unsettled weather is probable soon.
