HOCKEY.
THE UNITED CLUB. There was 1 not a large number of hockey enthusiasts present at the meeting called for the purpose of forming a, second hockey club in New Plymouth, Mr. Fred, Koliertsoii was eleoted to the chair. After a little discussion, in w'nichj W'.ei'3 »vas ft, consensus of opinion that; the formation of a second club would be a good tiling for hockey, as it would'; bring about keener rivalry, the 1 club was formed under the style' or the United Hockey Club, with a membership of about- twenty. | Mr. R. E. Maunder was elected secre-i tary pro torn,, | It was decided to ask the following to accept office:—Patron, Mr. F. W. ,Pagan; president, Mr. Fred. Robertson;; vice-presidents, 'Messrs A. Ambury, sen., 1 VV. H. F. Calgher; captain, l Mr. W. P. Crawford; secretary and treasurer, Mr. R . E. Maunder; commit-, tee, Messrs'. E. F. Shirley, F. Turnirall and (I. Pearce, witlj the president, caplain and secretary;'auditor, Mr. J. Mc-' Leod. I The membership fee was fixed at 6s, with a proviso that a shilling per member is to be earmarked to pay the Taranaki representatives' travelling ex- ! penses. j It was decided to affiliate the Tnra-' naki Ilockev Association, and Mr. Maunder was appointed delegate to the annual' meeting. < The selection of club colors was feft to the committee. I It was decided to apply to the Taranaki Jockey Club and to,the New Plymouth Ciub for permission to use the ground on the racecourse. i The matter of framing rules was referred to tlie committee. i It was decided to open the season next Thursday. j
TARAXAKI ASSOCTAIIOX. | Tlie annual general meeting of the] above was held at Inglewood on Wednesday, writes our correspondent. There were present: J. H. Rowe, esq. (vice- 1 president of the Association), in the' chair, Messrs 11. R. Billing (delegate for Piipakura Hockev Club) ,W. P. Xieol (Whakatika), E. D. Whirt (Stratford) and E. Dewhirs't (lion. sec. and treas.). I The report and balance sheet were then read and adopted. The disteussion' of the adoption of a set of rules drawn up and forwarded to the various clubs for consideration occupied some time. A 'hearty vote of thanks was accorded to ill". H. R .Billing for the trouble he had taken in drawing up and typing out sets of rules for the various clubs, j The following officers were elected:— Patron, Dr. Fookes (re-elected); president, W. G. Malone, esq. (re-elected); vice-presidents', J. 11. Rowe, esq. (president of the Inglewood Club) and the presidents of the other cl'ubs; lion, sec-j letarv and treasurer, F. Dewhirst (re-' elected); lion, auditor, R. Buckley. I Tim secretary was instructed to write to tin: Hawera. Eltham and Otakeho clubs re affiliation to the Association. | Messrs. Xieol and F. Dewhirst were elected a fixture committee. The meet-; ing was concluded with a vote of, thanks to J. H. Rowe, esq., for presiding. and also for the use of the room.
