FIRES.

BANK ON FIRE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Yesterdav. A fire was discovered in the Bank of New Zealand at a quarter to three this morning by two employees sleeping on the premises. The flames were promptly extinguished. The damage is only £SO. An examination proved that under the fireplace there was only a thin layer of concrete resting 011 woodbind the heat penetrating ignited the wuouwork. The fire must have smouldered for hours before it broke through the door. OUTBREAK AT WANGANUI. Wariganui, April 14. A lire broke out to-night in premises in Ridgway street occupied by Dusttn's, arid known as the Strand Cafe. The building wa.s gutted and the contents destroyed. Owing to M,r Dustin's absence from town, the exact insurances are not available, but it is thought the stock was insured for £3OO in the London and Lancashire, and the building also insured for £3OO. The adjoining premises escaped injury, save that of Gaffeny, a jeweller, who had his slock injured by water.
