BIG FIRE IN VICTORIA.

TIMBER YARDS ON EIRE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, April 11. Messrs Edwards and Company's large timber yards and mills at Oamperdowrj took fire this morning. The Are appears to have complete possession 01 tne timber. p ; AX ACRE DESOLATED. Sydney, April 11. The timber yards covered about an acre. The fire was discovered by a watchman in a 'feed room. Before he could summon the brigades it caught the surrounding timber stacks and spread with tremendous rapidity. '.Wie whole yard appeared doomed, but the brigades, by good work, managed to cut off and save a portion of the stacks. A large part, however, including valuable machinery, stables and carts, was destroyed. The watchman, using a revolver to frighten them, succeeded with great difficulty in driving fifteen 'horses safely out of the .stable. The bulk of the.timber*was stacked only last week. *
