The Premier, at Briand, presiding at a banquet attended by a thousand constituents at Saint Chamond, unfolded the Socialist and Radical majorities' programme. This includes an income tax, larger electoral areas, lengthening oi the period of the deputies' mandate by periodical renewal of only one-third of the chamber; a bill regulating the position of state servants, and eliminating all possibility of injustice (with such guarantees they would not be tempted to resort to a movement of revolt capable of imperilling the nation's vital interests). Two hundred Collectivest Socialists, •who "were assembled outside, smashed the windows and came into violent conflict with the police. They stoned. M. Briand and his supporters when quitting the hall. M. Briand was unhurt.
