P. AND 0. BOATS.
AUCKLAND THE PORT OF CALL. By Tfilegraph.—Press Association, Auckland, Friday. Information was received to-day that >the P. and 0. Company has definitely decided to make Auckland the port of call in connection with the intended service to be run to New Zealand from 1 November next until the following April. | Some doubt had been expressed as to whether the P. and 0. Company would send their steamers on to Wellington or arrange for them to make that the alternate port of call. Tn order to set th« > matter at rest, Mr. J. TI. Gunson, chairman of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, cabled to Sir Thomas Sutherland. chairman of directors of the P. and 0. Company, on Monday, expressing the hope that Auckland would be retained at the monthly port of call. To-day Mr. Gunson received an affirmative reply to his message from Sir Thomas Sutherland, with whom the decision rests. There is reason to believe the question has now reneaed j finality, and that there is no danger of the service being diverted from this port.
