DISTRICT NEWS

' URUTI. (From eur Special Correspondent). The mud bog on the Main "Uruti road, where the coach got stuc-k a little while ago and had to be assisted out by a bullock team, is again in a tolerable state of repair. For a few days a roadman was on the much neglected Uruti track. We hope to see him there again soon, as there are long arrears of repairs to be made up. The Puke road is being put in order in a most energtic fashion. Blight seems to be attacking all root crops this season, turnips- and onions being especially affected. Round about Hastings, where potatoes are largely grown, if the Plight attacks the crop when the tubers are fairly Avell grown, tlie tops of the plants are mown off. This prevents the blight from spreading to the roots, and it is said the-latter go on growing just the same. Po«siblv tlie same treatment might act on turnips, etc. Messrs Niclioll Bros., of Tangitu, have jus-t completed a fine concrete dip.
