FROZEN MEAT.

GKADEItS WANTED. LETTER FROM GISBORNE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The proposal to introduce a system of Government grading for frozen meat was considered at this afternoon's meeting of the Auckland A. and P. Association. A letter was received from the Gisborne branch of the Farmers' Union, covering the following resolution: "That the Government be urged to see that the necessary legislation is introduced making it compulsory for all meat exported from the Dominion to be graded ■by a Government -grader, in the same manner as butter, cheese, and hbiu-p is now graded." It is not suggested that there should be one uniform grade throughout the Dominion, but that if the experts consider there is a marked difference in quality, discretion should be allowed them; nor is it suggested that there should he any .power to interfere with the classification of the meat for trade purposes.

The .president (Mr. I. Gray) said it Was evident that the Gisborne Farmers' Union wanted those interested in the frozen meat trade to adopt a system similar to that of grading and stamping !New Zealand butter. He understood that delegates from the various companies were to meet again in Wellington shortly to consider matters affecting the frozen meat, trade, and pending that it would perhaps be as well to await further developments.

4-I^!''if' Sl "'d farmers felt that trier should be protected at the other end the same as the dairv farmers were protected by the srstem of Government supervision and grading. Tt was decided, on Mr. Garland's motion. to defer the question for a month, and to ask Mr. Pau?h and Colonel Bell to wait unon the committpe to address them on the subject.
