The Newcastle liner Cavinront, bound for America with nine hundred Russian Armenians aboard, discovered that the coal bunkers were afire oft' Boaehy Head. An explosion blew tlie hatch oIT, injuring twenty men. . A panic followed. Many men attempted to rush the women's boats, breaking one woman's snine.
The British . crew, using determined .measures, prevented a disaster. They knocked men down right and left. Four Armenians jumped overboard, imt were rescued. Finally all were transferred to other steamers. Prince and Princess Louis of Battenberg personallv served food to the famished people landing at Dover pier.
