There was an excited uproar in tke House of Commons when tlie lirst veto resolution was put and carried by bay votes to 237Mr. G. Ck-e, M.P. for Surrey (Kingston Division), moved an amendment in favor of a joint session in the event of differences between the two Houses j relating to money Bills. The Right Hon. D. It was unfair to say that his halfpenny ,land tax was confiscatory. A similar 'tax in New Zealand and New South Wales had the effect of taxing the land out of existence not because it transferred the land bodily to the State, but because it was no longer worth the owners' while to hold land except for purpose of using it.
