By Telegraph.—Press Atwoeiation. Wellington, Last ight. Ideal weather prevailed for the lirst day of the W.R.C. Autumn meeting. The attendance was very satisfactory and the course in good order. < Armlet received a great ovation after winning the Thompson Handicap. The sum of .£12,409 10s was. invested' on the tote as against £11,238 ■ last year. Bookmakers' fees amounted to £342; nine operated inside and 15 outside. The,ten shilling tote was a popular institution throughout the day. First Hurdles 'Race, of 200 sovs; 1% mile.—Mr C. B. Pharazyn's Longner, 9.9, 1; Whatakura, 2; Audax, 3. Also started: Chase Mab. Audax led during the greater part of the race, but fell away before reaching the straight. Won by half a length. Time, 3min 20 2-ssee.
Waiwetu Handicap; 7 furtongs.—Sir Geo. Clifford's Sharpshooter, 9.11, 1; .Tnugaiiini, 9.7, 2; Bollin, 9.5, 3. Also ran: Osiris. Swimming Belt, Louis. The first and second liors'es put up a good fight in the last few striges of the race. Won by a quarter of a length. Time, lmin 29sec.
Silverstream Handicap; 7 furlongs.— J. Bett's St. Felix, 6.7, 1; Explosive, 7.0, 2; Ukraine, 7.4, 3. Als'o started: Hilarian, Royal Marine, Magneto, Marengo, Succession, Idealism, Pinza, Sun Lass. The winner led shortly after entering the straight, and never left the issue in doubt, winning easily .by two lengths. Time, lmin 29 2-ssec.
Thompson Handicap, of 500 sovs; 1 mile.—G. D. Greenwood's Armlet, 8.15, 1; Tumut 8.8, 2; Nortli East, 9.6, i. Also started: Sir Tristram, Hustaidman, Sir Frisco, Lady Medallist, Waipuku, Ballarat, Adria, Mataari, Cronstadt, Aboriginal The winner led out, winning all the way by three good lengths. Baljarat was prominent in the early stages. Time, lmin 43 l-s&'ec. North Island Challenge Stakes, of CCO snvs; 7 furlongs.—Hon. Ormond's Formfiy, 8.1, 1; Polymorphous, 9.8, 2; Penates, 9.11, 3. Also ran: Gold Lace, Flitaway and King Soult. Won all the way by half a length. Time, lmin 28 see. Plunket Xursery Handicap, of 150 sovs; five furlongs.—Sir Geo. Clifford's Tenterhook, 8.10, 1; Lord Kelvin, 8.4, 2: Deploy, (5.7, 3. Also started: Selene. Britis'h Maid, Dearest, Lady Klleheran, Odessa. The winner led all the war. Won by two lengths. Railway Handicap, of 200 sovs; fl furlongs.—J. W. Lowes' Effort, 8.9 1Perle d'Or, 0.12, 2* Gipsy Belle, 3. Alsto ran: Kilindini, Advantage, Golden Loop. A very close finish resulted. Won by a nose. Time, lmin 15sec.
