FARM AND DAIRY.
The output of butter for the season to date has proved a recora nor tke Auckland district (says the Star). For ihe fortnight ended March 31st, a total of 11,330 boxes, or 2S3 J /i. tons, of butter was sent to the cpol store for export. This is nearly three times the quantity forwarded during the corresponding period of last year, viz., 4379 boxes, or 110 tons. The present shipment, at ruling rates, is worth about £34,52(1. The export, from October Ist, 1909, to Marsh 31st, 1910, wil ltotal 3480 tons, showing an increase of 1579 tons upon the amount sent away for a similar period last season. The weather this year has been exceptionally favorable for the dairying industry.' Although the season was a very .hot one, rains fell at intervals of about a month, which constantly renewed the pasture. If the roads' in the Auckland province were better it might be possible to continue the dairying industry throughout the winter. As it is, however, the impossibility of carting the milk to the creameries in the winter precludes the extension of the season. Those factories situated in districts where the roads are
)od will probably continue workinc; throughout the winter. More factories will be at work next season, as contracts 'have been let for buildings at Rotorua, Matata (Bay of Plenty), Herekino, Piopio, and meetings have been held with the idea of starting a cooperative dairy factory at Whangaparaoa.
