SIR CHARLES LUCAS.
HIS RECENT COLONIAL TRIP. PARLIAMENTARY PAPER ISSUED. By Catole.— Press Association.—Copyright Received April 5, 10/25 p.m. London, April 5. A Parliamentary paper has jii"t i<een issued containing Sir Charles Lucas' impressions during his recent visit to Australia and New Zealand. ■He insists on the necessity of quick mail services. One. good result of the Press Conference was to strengthen the movement for obtaining cheaper telegrams. He welcomed cheaper sea. communication. It was a payable proposition and would enable Labor representatives to visit England. Nothing was more admirable in Australian public life than the effort to keep permanent officials outside the scope of political mfluence. It would be difficult to point to any part of the world combining more advantages within the same space. British interests in the Pacific called imperatively for much better communication between the Pacific islands. There was, he said, considerable keenness* in Australia and New Zealand for extended openings for their youths m the Imperial services.
