"WITHOUT ENCUMBRANCE."
AX AGENT-GENERAL'S EXPLANATION. By Cable.—Pr*&s Association.— Copyright London, April 4. Mr. Cochlan, Agent-General for New South Wales, writing to The Times, »-vs that some Australian employers in the hackblocks are averse to engaging married couples with children, not because they are heartless or unfeeling, but because they prefer that children should remain in the thickly-populated areas, where thev are able to obtain doctors, nursing, and schooling. The, versy has arisen because certain emigration committees in England are sendin <r unemployed mechanics and laborers with families. This is entirely contrary to the State Government's policy. The States expect a man to send for his family when he has established himself.
