BOWLING.

WEST END CLUB. There was a fair attendance laat night at the meeting of intending members of a bowling dub to be formed at the West End. Mr J. D. Sole was elected to the chair. The committee set up at the flrrt meeting reported that they had met the Western Park Board and arranged to lease a piece of land 180 ft. by 150 ft. at a rental of £1 a year for tha fi»l five years, and £5 a year thereafter, the lease to be extended from time to time. The Board would pass the application on to the Borough Council for confirmation. Thev had located Kom* excellent turf, thanks to the assistance of Mr W. Healy, and had obtained petmission to remove turf from byroad" in the county. The cost of carting turf for four rinks- would be £l2, and the neeeiaajy timber £(>. Then there would be the cost of excavation, turfing, etc. It coat the Inglewood Club £S7 for four rinks, , hut that club had had the expense of drain pipes, railage of turf, etc., th» the West End Club would not have to face. The secretary further reported thai the canvass- had resulted in 53 playing memliers and several honorary member* handing in their names. It was decided to call the club tna West End Bowling Club. After some discussion the meeting adopted the "university blues" (dark and light) as the club's colors. The rules of the New Plymouth Bowling Club were adopted, the annual subscription being fixed at two guineas. Officers were elected as follows:--. President. Mr Jas. V. Sole; vice-presi-dents'. Messrs Ceo. Corney and A. R. Standish; secretary, Mr J. H. Hobba; : for the general committee, Messrs Beat©, Francis, Gilbert. Lepine, J. Hunter, F. A. Lee Ellenn and N. Oreiner were nominated and Messrs Beale, Francia, Gilbert, Lepine. Lee and Kllerm. Tt was decided that half of «wy subscription is to he paid by the IBtK of the month, and the second guinea by Kith May.
