CHINESE UNION ISTS. '3y Cable.—Press Association—Cov.v fight Received April 4, 10.20 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. As an outcome of the Factories Act stopping overtime, thereby curtailing their earning powers, the Chinese Cabinet Pieceworkers' Union of Sydney demanded an increase. The masters granted an increase of from 10 to 15 per cent, on the wages, with a corresponding increase on the price of manufactured articles.
A PECULIAR EVENT. Adelaide, April 4. Wisliart, the man whose hands were severely burnt when assisting to extinguish the lire on 24th March which proved fatal to Mrs. Hinton an:! two children, died suddenly in the street of heart failure, supposed to be the result of shock to 'his nervous .systeril-. at the time of the fire.
EARTHQUAKES IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, April 4. The seismograph at the Observatory recorded numerous slight earth tremors between 3 and 4 o'clock on Thursday morning and between 4 and 5 o'clock on Friday morning.
