WAITARA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Messrs F. and W. Clare were th« successful tenderers for the erection of the Rerekino bridge over the Waitara river on th« Moki road. The Rev. J. B. Brocklehurst and family left for Auckland on Wednesday •vening en route for Whangarei, their future home. On Tuesday evening a farewell social was given in St. John's Hal, there being a large number present for the purpose of farewelling the rev. gentleman. Mr. H. E. Gilbert, on behalf of the church people, presented Mr. Brocklehurst with a handsome eight-day clock, suitably inscribed. The rev. gentleman suitably replied. During the evening gongs were rendered by the Misses Gilbert and J. Crowles, pianoforte solo by Miss Gilbert, and songs by Messrs Beckbessinger, W'ilkunson and Eggleaton. The dance music was supplied by Mrs. Prosser, Misses Gilbert and Stoddart and Mr. Leary.
The North Taranaki Mounted Rifles •ports, which took place on Easter Monday, were a huge success. Fine weather .prevailed and a record attendance was the result. The sum of £27 was taken at the gates. An excellent programme wa» gone through, causing plenty of eicitement throughout. The Rifles must be complimented upon the manner in which they carried out the programme. The Waitnfa Municipal Brass Band, under Mr. T. B. McConnell, enlivened the proceedings by rendering a first-class programme of music.
Tn the evening a social was held in St. John's Hall. There was again another large attendance, the Waitara Band providing the dance music. During the evening songs were contributed fov Miss Bradley and Messrs Beckbessinwr and Hart. Quartermaster Hawkini nnd Color-sergermt Brabant acted as M.C/s.
