WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on the 23rd un.. when 'there were present: Crs. W. A. McCiuchan (in the chair), J. Anderson, T. „\k- , Ilroy, A. Meredith, E. B. Robertson and •R. McCluggage. An apology for his unavoidable absence was received from Cr. Jones. 1 _ The engineer's report was read, and it was resolved that a grant of ±;]s be taken from the Strathmore riding special fund account to repair a wash-out on the Mangaehu road. ■ _ Mr. A. Coxhead waited on the Council in reference to the present state of l'utikituna road, which, he sai.l. urgently required extensive repairs. The engineer was subsequently authorised to effect the necessary repairs to that portion of the Putikituna road under the Council's control, as requested by Mr. Coxhead. The enginer was empowered to proceed with the matter of burning papa for the maintenance of the Ohunt road in the central riding; and it'was resolved to call tenders for iho work, to close in ten days' time, aud to be dealt with 'by a committee consisting of ( rs. Anderson and McCutchan. The jvatter of the spreading of papa on the Maniraoivhata road was left in the hands ofthe ! •ngineer, whose report was then adopt- 1 ed. | . Mr. Parsons waited on the Council ' "with a request for permission to erect ' an eating-house on the reserve in the < township near Mr. Bradley's residence— ' It was pointed out to Mr. Parsons that < the Council had no control over the ' reserve in question. J Mr. W. Bowers wrote with reference « to the management at the Stratford < 'Hospital, and after consideration of the letter it was resolved to write advising the Stratford Hospital Board that the Council had received a complaint from Mr. Bowers concerning the non-admis-sion of lis son to that institution, and asking the reason why admission was refused. Mr. A.- Coyne wrote in reference to the special rate on the Brewer-Kirai loan, and it was resolved to inform him that the matter referred to was under consideration, and that he would be advised later as to the Council's decision in the matter. Mr. M. Foley wrote concerning the Tapuni road grant, and it was decided ■ to inform him that no action had been taken by the Council in the matter referred to, and that when the Stratford County Council made application for the money his interests would be safeguarded. It was resolved to consult the county solicitors in reference to the question raised bv Mr. J. Walker concerning rates levied on his section. Cr. Meredith gave notice to move the itrikin? of a bridge rate over the Strathmore riding. A formal resolution authorising the off certain irrecoverable rates was carried, which with the passing for .payment of-accounts totalling £COB 12s Id concluded the business of the meeting.—Post. !
