VENICE MURDER TRIAL.

The trial is still proceeding at the Venice Assizes o'f Niuimoff, a Russian, the Countess Tarnowska. her lawyer Prilukoli', and her maid Perrier, on a charge of murdering Count Kamarowski, a Russian, at Venice, in September, 1907. Expert evidence was tendered to show that Count KamarowKki's life would pos-1 siblv have been saved had a certain operation not been performed. Tt is alleged that Naumoff shot Count Kamarowski. The count's life was in surcd for £20,000 in favor of Countess Tarnowska, a Russian divorcee, aged 26, who was 'betrothed to him. The countess and PrilukofT were arrested at Vienna on a charge of collusion in the . murder. The countess alleged at the time that ! Naumoff, who is a young married man, ( was desperately in love with her. and to get the count out of the way determined to kill him. She sent Prilnkoff with de- ! tectives to protect the count and pre- : vent his murder. PrilukofT, however, subsequently con- ' fessed that the extravagance of the \ countess had ruined him and had driven ' him to rob his clients. He added that she planned the murder to obtain the , insurance money, and that he was to ' marry her afterwards. Naumoff was a . mere tool in her hands.
