IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS. SOME NEW APPOINTMENTS. By Cauie.—Prws Association.-roorright Wellington, Last Night. A development of the Defence Department's organisation, due to the important extension of its activities provided in the Defence Act of last session, has just ibeen arranged. The General Staff under Colonel Robin will be increased by creating the positions of Director of Military Training and Education and Director of Operations and' Intelligence. These important .positions will be filled by two quali fied Imperial General Staff officer*, who are to arrive in a few monthi from England. Meanwhile the work of the Director of Military Training and Education will be undertaken by LieutenantColonel Chavtor, and the duties com prise the education of officers in staff operations, issue of manuals and textbooks, the training of all arms of the service, organisation of corps of instruction, and control of staff ride». Major Laseelles will the position of Director of Operations and Intelligence, which deals with general organisation, preparation of defence schemes, military operations of all sorts, staff rides, the collection and ex change of information among the forces of the Dominion, and the preparation of maps- and plan*. Both officers wi he located in Wellington. _ .. . Lieutenant Colonel Tuson and ii ] Laseelles. who are in the Imperial ser vice, will leave for England in atl u four months.
