Mr. F. (iiHamlers. lately in charge of the State Farm Experimental Station, at Minima liaki, has accepted an appointment with -\lr. C. A. Wilkinson, of Klthani, a-, manager of the seed, produce, #tc., part of the business. Miss Dulcie Deamer (Mrs Albert G<*> dii'j has just published a book entitled "As it was in the Beginning." This contains several short stories, among them the four which appeared some time ago in the Lone Hand. and* a tale 01 the days of the lncas.
Mr. C. firant, who for many years conducted a newspaper at Milton, has joined the stalf of the Daily News as head of the, job printing department, vice Mr. 0. Slade, who has purchased an interest in the business of Messrs. Hooker and Co., of this town. At Chatsworth House last night Mr C. M. Hill was "farewelled" by his fellow boarders and Mrs Howell and family. During the evening Mr Hill, whois about to enter the ranks of the benedict?', was the recipient of handsome presents, including silver-mounted oak saiad-bowl, biscuit barrel, 'butter dish and cake stand.
Mr. J. F. Strang, managing clerk for the past three years for Messrs. Malone, Anderson and Johnstone, and for three years previously employed by the firm, as clerk, is leaving shortly for Taumarunui, -where he intends entering business on his own account. Mr. Strang has been a great enthusiast in hockey circles, and last season held the secretaryship of the Taranaki Hockey Association.
On Monday night, at his residence in Napier, the death of Mr Thomas Watt took place, after a lingering illness extending over several years'. Says ail exchange:—Mr Watt arrived in Napier in the sixties, and took part in the Maori War. He was present at the engagement with the Maoris near Petane, and in other skirmishes under Captain Pruee. He was a native of the North of Ireland, from the neighbourhood of Belfast. The deceased gentleman leave.* a wife and family of four daughters and one son.
A Diuiedin Press Association wjrestates that His' Excellency the Governor concluded a visit to Port Chalmers yesterday. and came to Dunedin, where he opened the Hocken Library. To-day the Governor will visit Mosgiel, Balelntha, Catlins River and Clinton. Tuesday he Avill go to Edendale, Wyndham, Glenham, Waimahaka and Bluff, where he will remain till Monday. Hitf subsequent movements' are: April 4 r visit Invereargill April 5, Riversdale, Waikaia, Waikaka and Gore; April 6, Taparmi and Mataura; April 7, return to Dunedin; April 8, leaves for Wellington direct.
