i SERIOUS OUTBREAK IN GISBORNE. . By Telegraph.—Press A»Boei>i f: " Gisbornc, Last Night. A destructive fire broke out in GladStone road at 8.15 p.m. It started at the back of the diaper- store of P. liallam, went to an em; ly double-storey building on one side and to a small laundry business on the other si<t«. The high wind, rain and the intervening brick wall saved the fire from catching the large two-storeyed wooden shop and premises' of Fred Hall. The drapery store and laundry business were completely burnt out, only the walls being left standing. Tlie buildings were insured, but neither of the content* <f the shops. The amount of the insurance is unobtainable. BLAZE AT LOWER HUTT. Wellington, Last Night. A fire occurred at Lower Hutt early this morning, and destroyed the joinery, plumbers' and painters' shop, also the contents of the timber yard, belonging to Strand Bros., sawmillers. '.. Ie heavy gale prevailing interfered greatly with the work of the brigade, whicn, however, managed to save the adjoining residences, but not before .vomfi £250 damage bad been done to the out* buildings of .Mr P. H. Goose. Strand Bros/ workshops and machinery were insured in the South British Fire office for £7OO, but the loas exceeds the insurance by several hundreds. Mr Gosse's house was insuredSior £4OO in the Royal, and the furniture for £l5O in the New Zealand Office.
