A middle-aged man named Archibald Henry was knocked down on Monday at the Inangahua Landing railway cutting. He was severely injured in the spine, and lies in a critical condition. I At the inquest on the body ol a young man named William Knight Porter, who was found on the' road at Pokoro early o* Tuesday morning and placed in a shed, where he subsequently died, the medical evidence showed thnt death resulted from a fractured skull, j evidently the result of a fall lrom a | horse. It appeared that deceased had i been attending the sports at Motuesa,! and had been drinking with other youths. The coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, and directed the police to make : exhaustive enquiry into the drinking ;' among youths, which evidently had taken place at the sports and in town. He was satisfied that the men who found Porter'on the road had no reason to believe he was injured. j'

A man named J. Briegs was admitted to the Hawera Hosp'tal on Monday evening as the result of an accident in the morning on the tramline at the Te Kiri sawmill. He U badly injured about the back, and is a'so suffering from shock.—Star.
