Mrs. Penwarden has resigned her position as teacher of the Ka/hui school. Miss Margaret O'fiorke has been appointed a pupil teacher at the Inglewood school. ■ Mr. Phil Stewart, who is in advance of the miniature man. known as the "Cornish Pixie," arrived in town yesterday. Mr. A. Greenfield, S;M. arrived in Hawera on Saturday evening from Nelson to again take up relieving work in this district.—Star. The Huirangl school committee haschosen Mr. Andrew Bullians, of Otoroa, Kaeo. Auckland, as sole teacher of their school. Mr. Bullians has a D2 certificate, and was married during the Easter holidays. Sir J. Batty Tuke, who has been on a few weeks' tour of the Dominion, left Wellington on his return to England by the Tainui on Thursday. The Hon. M. St. John, Rev. W. S. Potter, and Rev. Jas. Guy were passengers by the same steamer. The Rev. H. 8. Woollcombe, the visiting organising missioner for the Church of England Men's Society, is suffering from a severe attack of as a consequense, it is possible that he will have to abandon hj» mission in Auckland. A Dunedin wire states that His Excellency the Governor continued his i tour of Otago yesterday. He visited j Palmerston in the morning, and was ac--1 corded an enthusiastic reception. He was entertained at luncheon there, and subsequently came on to Port Chalmers, where he again received a welcome. He will remain at Port Chalmers till this morning, and will then journey to Dunedin, opening the Hocken Library lin the afternoon. On Friday he will proceed south. A London correspondent wrtes that Miss Winnie Sole, of New Plymouth, [ who went to England last September I by the Athenic, expects to return >iy the Afric, via the Cape, in April next. Most I of her time has been spent with friends ! in and about Derby. Mrs. F. M.GGar*-u r *- | rodger. of Eltham, who also arrived by ! the Athenic in September, is on a visit to j her relations, and will remain till April, i when she leavv-s again for New Zealand by the White Star liner Afric. Most of her time has been divided between Derby, London and Brighton.
