•CONCLUDING DAY'S PLAY. HAROLD WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP. ! The Ngamotu Golf Club's iEasl er tournament concluded yesterday. Unfortunately the weather, which had been splendid on the preceding days, changed during Monday night, and yesterday's golf was marred by a steady, soaking rain, which not only affected the attendance but ols'o the entries. Many of the visiting competitors, before leaving, expressed their keen appreciation of the excellent management ot the fixture, and apparently this already popular meeting has m3.de a- number of new friends. THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

The final of the championship started yesterday at about 1.15 p.m. There was a very small attendance, but Some 35 enthusiasts "went round, following the match with the keenest interest. Mr. A. H Glasgow acted as umpire. Har-: old had the honour, and drove in a : first rate ball, as did also Lewis'. Both j players approachesd on to the green, and the hole was halved in four. At the second hole Harold played with his wood, and went just off the green to tKfe .right, wihilst .Lewis Isliiced; bSidly with an iron club, and lay some 50 vafds to the right. His approach waa j a - little too strong, and the hole weni to Harold in three. At the third hole Harold topped and hooked, but striking a pti'Al of the fence was shot on to the ferway. Lewis drove a beautiful bail, | itnd as Harold foozled with ,his brassey, ■ it looked like a sure thing for Lewis. Lewis played 'his second just short of the green to the right. Harold plafed a long iron shot in a dead line, out some eight yardsi short of the green. Lewis duffed his. approach, and in his next shot lay some ten feet from vhe pin. Harold played short some ten feet also, and the hole was halved in six. Going to the Ridge, Harold drove a magnificent ball against the wind, and lay twenty yards from the green. wn«e Lewis sliced rather badly, and lay on the farther slope of the gully to the right. Harold played short in his approach, but on the green, and Lewis got well oii, but neither holed, and the hole was halved in four At the fifth, Harold topped his drive badly, striking some twenty yards from the fence, but had the good luck to find himself in the further paddock, with room for a brassey shot. Lewis sliced badly, and lay in the road. He played out very well, some twenty yards into the paddock. Taking the brassey for his third, Lewis hooked badly, with a long shot, and the ball was' lying in heavy fern on the slope of the gully. He failed to get out satisfactorily, and gave up the hole to Harold, who was lying close to the green with an excellent brassey shot—his second. Going to *'lhe Pines, Harold drove a very good straight ball, but Lewis' topped badly and got only twenty yards beyond the gorse. He failed to recover, and the hole went to Harold, who had played for a safe five. At the seventh hole, "The Rocks,"' drove a long ball over the stones. Lewis again topped badly, and was in the thick grass some fifty yards from the tee. He took his driver, and got on the plateau level with the stones. His' next shot he sliced round to the right. Lewis played his third level with the green, but a' little to the right. Harold played a long second to the top of the s'econd ridge, and with a pretty approach gave himself a four-foot put, which he holed, winning the hole in 4 to Lewis' 5 Harold overcarried "The : Coffin" straight beyond the flag, while Lewis sliced close to the edge of the home tee. and the hole was halved in four. Coming to the homo hole Harold drove close to the stones. Lewis had a long ball a little to the right. He duffed his s'econd flag dead with his i third, while Harold played on to the green, and the hole was halved in four, i leaving Harold four lip the turn. | Driving off, Harold got a very long j ball, but the slice with the east wind j took it into the hedge, while Lewis j drove a really good ball. Harold tried to play out, but failed, and gave up i ; the hole. At the second, Lewis again sliced badly, while Harold was just | j through the green. But he failed to lay i his approach dead, and the hole was | halved in four. Harold drove a beauti-1 i ful ball at the third, in dead line wi'h I ! the stones. Lewis' was as long, but to I . the left, in rough grass. Both got on j , in the third, but Lewis, putting short, took six to Harold's five. At the next hole both drove good balls, lying within a few feet of each other, but neither approached dead, land the hole was halved in four. Again both drove beautiful balls at the fifth, but Haro.d 'hooked his drive into fern on the 1 left It was found, however, within the time limit, and he played a splendid s'hot just through the green. Lewis played a good sceond close to the green, but duffed his third, was short in his next, and then holed an 18-foot put, and the hole was halved in five. This left Harold dormv 4. Harold hooked a long ball into the gully, lying half wai - down the slope, but luckily had. n fairly lie. He was s'hort in his second, and was on the green ,in his third. Lewis reached the green' in his second, and holed in four to Harold's five. Harold just cleared the gullv, anil luckily oid , not roll back, whilst his opponent drove a verv long ball with slight slice and rolled into thick fern. made a fine attempt to hole out with his fourth, the ball just missing the hole, which was halved in five, leaving Harold the winner by three up and two to play. OTHER MATCHES. The other results were as follow: Bogey Handicap, 18 holes.—G. Saunders (1), 2 up; J Power (6), 1 up; V I. Saunders (1), 1 down; Daniell (9), 1 down; O'Callaghan (2), 2 down; Lewis (scr), 3 down; A Standish (14), 3 down; Glasgow (6), 3' diown; Gillies (1), 4 down; Jack (13), 4 down; Thomson (18), 4 down; Southall (12), 4 down; Miles (9), 5 down; Bates (9), 5 down; Crombie (18), 5 down; N. Bewley (13), 6 down; Biernacki (18), 6 down; Johns (2), 7 down. There were 34 entries. For the driving competition there were fourteen entries. Coghill took place at 193 yards, Lewis second at 192.

For the approaching competition the contestants numbered twenty-four. This was' won by A. Bewley. The play-off in the continuous putting competition, wherein three had tied on Monday, was won by Muir with 16. The men's putting yesterday was won by Mr A. O'Callaghan. Owing to the wet weather the ladies' competition was not 'held THE CONCLUSION. At the close of the championship Mr A. Standish, as president of .the club, expressed his pleasure at the entrance of so many from outside clubs, and briefly referred to the winning of the championship by Mr Harold, and the excellent fight put up by Mr Lewis, the runner-up. On behalf of the club he thanked the Tournament Committee, Messrs C. Wright, F. S. Johns and H.H. Ward, for the conduct of the meeting in general, and particularly for the excellent condition of the links in spite of the heavy growth of grass and the early fall of Easter. Mr Cecil Wright, on behalf of the committee, returned thanks, and took occasion to ask visiting players for hints in regStrd to management. Mr G. Saunders,y on behalf of the. visitors, in a few suitable words', expressed the pleasure of tl)e visitors in general at the tournament. For himself, ,he had alwavs attended these meetings, and intended to continue to do so
